you will need:
either an iPad mini 1
iPad 2
iPad 3
iPad 4 (running iOS 8/9)
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5 (running iOS 8/9)
iPod touch 5
this guide might not work if you are using an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6/6 plus or iPad mini 2 since they are 64-bit devices
you will also need an internet connection
the first thing you want to do is of course connect to the internet so you want to first open settings then tap "Wi-Fi"
then connect to your Wi-Fi
you need to do this in order to use the jailbreak
open safari and in the url bar go to carbon.sep.lol and then you should see this:
I recommend to add a shortcut to the website to the homescreen, to do that you want to tap the share button (box with an up arrow in it)
and then tap "Add to Home Screen,"
then open the shortcut, then you want to press run and the device will reboot, if the web page refreshes just press run, if it shows an error screen just refresh the page and try again
when you unlock the device after it has rebooted you will notice a new app installed called Cydia, when you open it the first time it will need to do some setup
(you might get a pop-up saying that you are running low on storage, just dismiss it" and then it will close,
and then you want to reopen Cydia and it will ask what user mode you want I recommend selecting developer but you can go with the other options,
and then it will ask you to upgrade, I recommend a full upgrade, then you want to go to sources and then tap edit in the top right corner and then add in the top left corner
then add a couple repos

CoolBooter (iOS 8/9 only)
in Cydia you want to download CoolBooter from the CoolBooter Repo, and then you want to open coolbooter and download iOS 6 or 7 in the app and wait for it to download
once it is done downloading tap boot and it will tell you to lock the device, tap the power button and wait, the first time it will install it then boot back into iOS 9
so you will have to run carbon again, then open CoolBooter and tap boot and then lock the device when it tells you and then the old apple logo will pop up
there is a issue that can sometimes happen during setup where activation fails, what you want to do if that happens is to download iTunes if you haven't already
(not the microsoft store version get it from the apple website) and then plug the device into your computer and activate it through there,
if that doesn't work you can also try 3utools.
once you have setup iOS 6, setup Cydia again and then re-add the repo's (except CoolBooter Repo), and if you want you can add a few other repos
